What is Lactose Intolerance?
Lactose Intolerance is when the human body is unable to digest lactose. For example: Milk, Yogurt, butter, ice-cream and more.

What does the word Lactose mean?
Lactose is a type of sugar, which is made naturally, and is found in alot of dairy products like butter, milk, cheese (some kinds) and more.

Why does it only affect some people?
Lactose Intolerance can be inherited while it is more common in some ethnic groups and mostly occurs in adulthood. It can also occur if there is an inury to the intestinal lining which can be caused by the stomach flu, radiation and more. They call that secondary Lactose Intolerance and for some people it may go away after the intestinal lining is healed.

To diagnose Lactose Intolerance the doctors, nurses or GP base it on what symptons you have. Most people who have Lactose Intolerance normally have digestive problems. To measure the digestion of Lactose they can do a:

- Most people with lactose intolerance can tolerate some amount of lactose in their diet
- There are pills which can be taken before eating which produce more of the enzyme lactase, therefore allowing somebody who is lactose intolerant to consume a certain amount of lactose.
